Outlook Plugin and Transfer Manager – Installation and Use


SendThisFile’s Outlook Plugin seamlessly extends secure file transfers to Microsoft Outlook. The plugin lets users securely send email attachment of any size right from within Outlook, without exceeding their email account storage limits. Additional benefits allow the user to:

  • Integrate secure file transfers into your email workflow
  • Automatically insert download links into outgoing email
  • Install to multiple computers on a network
  • Consolidate file transfer activity and monitoring to a single SendThisFile account

How to Install the Outlook Plugin and Transfer Manager

  1. Download the Installer
    • Note: the Outlook Plugin can be found on the send files page, you must be logged-in to view this page.
  2. Run the installer
    • Make sure you are signed in to Windows with administrator privileges. Close Outlook if it is open.
    • Double click the downloaded Outlook Plugin installation file.
    • Outlook Plugin Installer Welcome
    • You will be presented with the Welcome screen. Click ‘Next.’
  3. Confirm installation destination
    • Outllook Plugin Installation Choose destination
    • Choose your desired installation destination for the transfer manager to reside, this defaults to C:\Programs\SendThisFile. Click ‘Next.’
  4. Confirm and Install
    • Outlook Plugin Install
    • Confirm your selection. Click ‘Install.’
  5. Allow the program
    • Allow Plugin to Install
    • Windows OS will ask if you want to allow the installation to proceed. Click ’Yes.’
    • Outlook Plugin Install Complete
    • You will next see a completion screen. Click ‘Finish.’
    • Congratulations, you have successfully installed the Outlook Plugin and Transfer Manager!

Who can use the plugin

Only Professional, Business, Enterprise, and Dedicated Enterprise plan customers are able to use Outlook plugin at this time. Free, Starter, and Pro plans must upgrade to use the plugin.


The outlook plugin is designed for the following Windows software. Sorry, a Mac OS version is unavailable at this time.

  • Outlook 2007
  • Outlook 2010
  • Outlook 2013

Compatible Operating Systems:

  • Microsoft Windows XP (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)

  • Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit)

Setup and Use


  1. Restart Outlook and find the SendThisFile Tab. Note: If it is missing, visit our trouble shooting page.
    • Click on the ‘Connecting’ button
    • Note: This button will change depending on the connection status, the image above shows how the button will look when successfully connected to the SendThisFile servers.
    • Enter account information and click ‘Sign In’
  2. In theĀ PreferencesĀ Group
    • Ensure ‘Use SendThisFile Secure Transfer’ is checked if you want to use SendThisFile to transfer files
    • Set the minimum attachment size that will utilize the Transfer Manager. This is amount will be for the total size of all attachments
    • Set the Default account that will be used to temporarily hold the emails while the files are being uploaded to the SendThisFile servers. DO NOT SELECT YOUR IMAP account, instead use an account with a local data file like those used for POP email, Exchange, or ‘Outlook Data File’.

Setting up Enterprise account users for the Outlook plugin

  1. Sign into your account at SendThisFile
  2. Click the Admin menu option
  3. Click on the ‘Users’ sub-menu option
  4. Click on the Branded Upload Form for them to use
  5. Enter the user email address and password, check auto-verify
  6. Click add
  7. NOTE: Network administrators can modify the .MSI Outlook Plugin installer registry setting to hide the ‘Personal’ option drop down. This ensures that all users are on the same account.

Sending Emails

  1. If an email has a total attachment size that exceeds the minimum size limit, you will be prompted with the following dialog:
  2. Outlook Plugin message transmit options
  3. Select which template to use, whether you want a download receipt, and if you want it to remember your preferences for this session.
  4. Click OK and the message will begin transmitting.

Using the Transfer Manager

  1. Double click on the SendThisFile ‘Mailbox’ icon in the task menu.
  2. The ‘File Transfer’ tab shows the files that are currently being uploaded to SendThisFile servers.
  3. The ‘Transfer Status’ tab shows the dates, file details, recipients, and status of the files that have been transmitted during the current session.

Uninstalling the Outlook Plug-In

  • Close Outlook.
  • From the Start Menu, Select ‘SendThisFile->Uninstall Outlook AddIn and Transfer Manager’.
  • Click though prompts until uninstall has completed.
  • Navigate to the Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features).
  • Select the ‘SendThisFile’ program and click the ‘Remove’ button.
  • To confirm that the uninstallation was successful, Open Outlook . The SendThisFile tab should no longer be visible.
